Their mission is to "ensure that girlsand women have access to a complete range of opportunities and choices and have equity as participants and leaders in sport and physical activity." Their web site includes such topics as gender equity in sport, how to encourage girls to get active, women & leadership, how to prevent harassment & abuse in sports, awards & scholarships, network, publications & books, history of women's sport, and links to other sites on women and/or sports as well as women's magazines. This organization also provides a free e-mail subscription service.
Founded in 1984 to "pursue and promote equity for women in and through sport," this is the only organization in the U.K. that is solely committed to improving and promoting opportunities for women and girls in sport at every level. Established by Juan Antonio Samaranch in 1995, the working group has advised the IOC president and the Executive Board on women and sport. Like all other IOC commissions and working groups, it is only an advisory body and composed of representatives of the three components of the Olympic Movement (IOC, IFs, NOCs) as well as an athletes' representative and independent members.
